An inspiring portrait of Kabul’s one-woman rehabilitation program for drug addicts

Afghanistan is a country which has been ravaged by war and internal strife since the 70’s – and the world’s largest producer of heroin. Unsurprisingly, this combination of factors has resulted in both a huge drug problem and a lack of government resources to combat it. This inspiring documentary chronicles the life and work of Laila Haidari, a former refugee and child bride who has taken it upon herself to save as many of Kabul’s addicts as possible. Ignoring the danger to her own life, she fights tirelessly to help those who can’t help themselves.

LAILA AT THE BRIDGE has won the Checkpoints Award.
