Modern Family

Zhipara is a poor woman making a living as a shaman. When she finds her long lost son Uluk at an orphanage, she contacts the boy’s father, Karabas. He is a heavy-drinking con man and gambler, currently living with his pregnant second wife. Despite a far from perfect family reunion, the strange foursome join forces and move into Karabas’ decaying van. SULEIMAN MOUNTAIN is a dramedy road movie about a dysfunctional family, and provides a fascinating insight into the culture and folklore of rural Kyrgyzstan.

SULEIMAN MOUNTAIN is in our main competition programme for international fiction, Cinema Extraordinaire.
