CAPERNAUM opens with twelve year old Zain suing his parents for giving birth to him. Then it flashes back to a life of poverty and squalor which ends with Zain running away to form another family-of-sorts with an Ethiopian immigrant and her one year old son. But when the woman disappears, Zain and his new adopted brother are forced to make their way in a harsh and inhospitable world. Featuring stunning performances from its young leads, CAPERNAUM is an extraordinary depiction of poverty and perseverance, which has been compared to films like SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and THE BICYCLE THIEVES.
