Rakel, Mohammed, Jenny and Torje survived the massacre on Utøya island in 2011, and in this unflinching documentary, they tell their stories. Over a period of two weeks in the summer of 2017, they reconstruct their horrifying experiences in an empty black box film studio in Northern Norway. The four survivors accepted to tell their story to the camera, going back into memories marred by unimaginable pain and horror. They do so because they know that it is important – for themselves, for society and for the future.
RECONSTRUCTING UTØYA will open the human rights programme Checkpoints Thursday 27 September.
