Germany, 1945: The war is in its final stages and lawlessness has reached desperate heights both among soldiers and civilians. 19-year-old deserter Willi Herold is on the run from his sadistic officers, but everything changes when he finds a captain’s uniform. As he slides into the role of a high-ranking member of the army, however, the question is whether he is wearing the uniform or if the uniform is wearing him. Shot in stark and atmospheric black and white, Robert Schwentke’s THE CAPTAIN is a bleak and disturbing glimpse into the human soul.
