In THE OTHER SIDE OF MARS, we meet Vandi Verma of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, who spends her days piloting the Mars rover Curiosity and photographing the surface of the red planet. Documenting the complex process of creating, editing and manipulating these images for scientific use and public information, the film is a philosophical investigation into man’s relationship with photography. At the heart of the documentary is the question of whether images of Mars simply depict reality or help create it – and whether that’s true here on Earth as well.
