One of the world’s biggest dams, the Belo Monte, is being built in the Xingu River in the Brazilian part of the Amazon Basin. The building of the dam has displaced tens of thousands of people and disrupted ancient and complex ecosystems. RIVER SILENCE follows four displaced families in Altamira, a city with few opportunities for jobs and proper housing and where violence is on the rise.
