Gentrifying the wetlands
In the wetlands of Romania’s capital Bucharest, Gica Enache, his wife Niculina and their nine children live off the land in an abandoned Soviet-era development which has been reclaimed by nature. They are poor but happy living in a makeshift home being self-sufficient in the wetlands. But the government plans to turn the area into a park, force the family to Bucharest, with no money, jobs or safety net. ACASA, MY HOME is a gripping and upsetting documentary about poverty, urban ecology and being robbed of the control of one’s destiny.
This film can be streamed on BIFF+ 12–31 October 2020. Limited amount of rentals on BIFF+.
