Billie Holiday is not only one of the most singular singers of all time, she also led a life filled to the brim with tragedy and triumph. In this gripping portrait, we are treated to testimonies of her life from family members, schoolmates, dealers, pimps, police officers, studio musicians and famous collaborators such as Charles Mingus, Tony Bennett and Count Basie. Culled together from more than 200 hours of candid audio interviews done in the 70’s, BILLIE is a film noir documentary about a uniquely talented and complex artist.
At the screening Sunday 11 October, there will be an introduction by Amalie Holt Kleive and Gabriela Garrubo. In collaboration with Bergen Jazzforum.
