British sci-fi, Icelandic music, Yugoslavian brutalism and a hyperfuturistic Tilda Swinton
Renowned Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (1969–2018) makes his posthumous directorial debut with this poetic meditation on the nature and evolution of the human race. As stunning images of Yugoslavian brutalist architecture float across the screen, Tilda Swinton narrates passages from Olaf Stapledon’s visionary sci-fi novel “Last and First Men” (1930) in the role of a hyper-evolved human from two billion years into the future. LAST AND FIRST MEN is a hypnotic and philosophical sci-fi film that evokes both Stanley Kubrick and Béla Tarr.
Friday 02 October, there will be a Special screening of LAST AND FIRST MEN at Bergensmeieriet.
