Songs of Repression
For most of its existence, the German colony of Villa Baviera in Chile was an insular enclave where child-abuse, murder and torture were a part of everyday life. Over a period of 18 months, directors Marianne Hougen-Moraga and Estephan Wagner have interviewed the remaining 120 members of this cult-like community, letting them speak candidly about their experiences and outlook on life. Produced by Joshua Oppenheimer (THE ACT OF KILLING, BIFF 2013), SONGS OF REPRESSION is a wise and disturbing tale about trauma, social isolation and reconciliation.
