Discovering that one of her high school students has not only married but also divorced, 52-year-old Manana decides to leave her husband, their cramped Tbilisi apartment and her ever-present extended family in order to devote her time to herself. MY HAPPY FAMILY is a charming and finely tuned drama about a woman who breaks out of a claustrophobic living situation in order to live the life she feels she deserves. Directors Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Gross have made an insightful and witty film about the joys – and insufferability – of family life.
