A screening of MER ENN BARE FJELL / FOR OUR RIGHTS (2025, 28 min), which is a contestant for this year's Best Short Documentary at BIFF, and a conversation with the director.

The Norwegian Supreme Court has ruled that a wind farm in a reindeer grazing area violates the rights of the Sámi people. Yet, the wind turbines are still standing. Young Sámi activists are demonstrating to force the authorities to act.

Johannes Vang is a Kven-Norwegian director from Nordreisa in Troms. His work explores themes relevant to his own generation in contemporary society, grounded in Kven and Sámi historical perspectives. FOR OUR RIGHTS is his personal contribution to the Fosen protests, offering a subjective perspective as a young Sámi today.

After the screening Johannes Vang will join us for a discussion of the film and the Fosen protests together with:

Rasmus Berg who was part of the Fosen protests representing Natur og Ungdom

Ana Braconnier currently a guest researcher at UiB, who researches indigenous rigths and protests as part of the CMI-LawTransform PluriLand project

Moderator: Siri Gloppen, Professor at the UiB Department of Government and LawTransform director.
